OUR LOCATION
The Spanish Virgin Islands are located in the Caribbean, just east of Puerto Rico and west of the U.S. Virgin Islands. This small, tranquil group of islands, which includes Culebra, Vieques, and several smaller cays, is part of Puerto Rico and lies within easy sailing distance of the mainland. Known for their natural beauty, uncrowded beaches, and rich marine life, the Spanish Virgin Islands are a hidden gem for sailors and travelers seeking a more laid-back Caribbean experience.
Our base is located in Fajardo, a convenient and easy drive from the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan (SJU).
AIR TRAVEL
Several U.S. airlines offer direct flights to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from various cities across the United States. Major carriers include:
Routes typically connect from significant hubs like Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Orlando (MCO), Atlanta (ATL), and Chicago (ORD), among others. Being a U.S. territory, Puerto Rico is easily accessible for domestic travelers without needing a passport.
Travel Tips
INSURANCE
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance through Travel Guard or Allianz Travel, particularly if you are traveling during hurricane season or departing during the winter months from the Northern United States or Canada.
TAXI FARES
If you require transportation, we could arrange an airport/hotel pick-up through a local taxi driver. His fare is $120.00 one-way for up to 4 people and $15.00 for each additional passenger, including a 1 hour stop for provisioning. The tip is not included. Please note an additional fee of $20 will apply for a longer wait.

CLIMATE/CLOTHING
The climate in the Spanish Virgin Islands stays relatively constant year-round, with temperatures ranging from 75-85 °F.
Dress on the islands is very casual. In most establishments, sundresses, shorts, and T-shirts are the normal attire.
The best bags to bring are soft-sided duffels that can be stored onboard your yacht. Please note that SailCaribe does NOT have room to store empty luggage.
The weather in the Spanish Virgin Islands is near-perfect year-round, with occasional brief showers and rare thunderstorms. Sunshine graces the islands all year, and the sea remains invitingly warm, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. From December to April, the water temperature averages around 78°F, warming up to about 84°F from May to November.
Remember your camera, swimsuit, walking shoes, sandals, T-shirts, a light rain jacket, hat, a small backpack, sunglasses and sunscreen.
CREW LIST AND TRAVEL FORM
45 days before your start date, you will be asked to submit your crew list and travel form.
For those of you arriving the day before your charter starts, you can opt for a prior night sleep-aboard on your yacht, subject to availability. The sleep-aboard is available for 7-night or longer charters ONLY, must be booked in advance, and costs 50% of your yacht’s daily charter rate.
